Happy New Years

EARTH - The Pale Blue dot

We were hunters and forgers, the frontier was everywhere. We were bounded only by the earth and the ocean and the sky. The open road still softly... calls our little teraquias globe is the mad house of those hundreds of thousands millions of worlds. We who cannot even put our own planetary home in order - rivened with rivalries and hatreds - are we to journey out into space?

By the time we are able to settle even the nearest of other planatery systems we will have changed. The simple passage of so many generations will have changed us. Necessity will have changed us. We're an adaptable species. It will not be we who reach Alpha Centauri and the other galaxies near us - it will be a species very like us - but with more of our strengths and fewer of our weakness. More confident, far seeing, capable, and prudent. For all our failings despite our limitations and foul abilities - we humans are capable of greatness. What new wonders undreamed of in our time will we have rought in this generation and another and another.

How far will our nomadic species have wondered by the end of the next century and the next millimuem our remote decendents safley arrayed on many worlds across the solar system and beyond will be unified by our common heritage. By their regard for their home planet and by the knowledge that whatever other life may be the only humans in all the universe come from earth.

They will gaze up and strain to find the blue dot in their skys they will marvel at how vulnerable the repository of raw potential once was. how perils our infancy, how humble our beginings. How many rivers we had to cross, before. we found our way.

Video for improved dramatic impact: www.vimeo.com/2822787

Cheers to that. Happy New Years!

Reminder of Caleb Schaber memorial at Burning Man 2009

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 6 p.m. – 7 p.m
The Rue Morgue is hosting a memorial for Caleb Schaber.

Rue Morgue is located at the 9:00 Plaza, look for the grey building.

We would like to extend the invitation to all family, friends, fellow burners, DPW and others whom Caleb effected so profoundly for a healing and celebratory moment of his life.

Service will be proceeded by a walk out to the playa to burn a memorial built by anyone with a piece of wood. In keeping with Caleb's nature its a free for all burn. Bring a block of wood to add to the sculpture during the week.

Please bring photographs you may have of him with you or otherwise to post, thank you.

If you need more info please see me at the Rue Morgue or any of the other morticians there at the camp.

______

Who are Burners Without Borders?

(From the BWB website)

Burners Without Borders is a grassroots, volunteer-driven, community leadership organization founded by Burning Man participants, whose goal is to help unlock the creativity of local communities to solve problems that bring about meaningful change. Founded by Burners (Burning Man participants) who instinctively gathered in the Hurricane Katrina disaster zone to help those who couldn't help themselves, BWB has grown into a dynamic international, volunteer organization made possible by the generous financial support of the community and an army of highly creative volunteers.

This past year alone, Burners Without Borders welcomed over 350 volunteers from all over the world to Pisco, Peru to support earthquake reconstruction efforts there. In communities across the world, people inspired by the activities of BWB, are taking the initiative to bring creative solutions to issues they care about. Whether it's using art to save camp fires at San Francisco's Ocean Beach or mobilizing volunteers to support the victims of the Fernley, NV flood, it's BWB's innovative solutions that make a real impact.

BWB is constantly engaged in new projects and their ability to be effective depends largely on donations to buy the materials needed to get the job done.

This is where we can help. Come out on July 18th and support Burners Without Borders on July 18th and bring all your friends!"

You can check out what BWB has been up to at www.burnerswithoutborders.org and be sure and check out their Blog to read about the projects through the words of the volunteers who are on the ground making them happen.

Anyone out there heading to Shooter's final whoorah out in Gerlach late this evening or tomorrow? I need a ride. Very lite baggage. Have cash for gas.

Also. If I could get a ride out to Wendover by Monday morning (10am to be exact but earlier is better). That would totally save me $300 for a plane ticket cause I have a ride back to Denver from there.

Anyone heading these directions?

Call me. Ridge
I've mentioned this before. Now, I've made a tribe for it. http://tribes.tribe.net/artcarfarm
I have 20 acres and want to get some people involved in developing it. DPW is welcome and preferred. Check it out. ask some questions. I want to have other people's visions and ideas incorporated into the initial development. Its good crash space. its private. its close to town and supplies. it has great zoning. it'll be a great place to build some art.
talk to me...

ATX for Hollis POSTPONED

Hi kids,
I am sad to say, the benefit for Hollis needs to be postponed.
Between the torrential thunder and lightening storms AND tornado warnings, it's just too dangerous.
In addition, last night, the community lost a friend.
Caleb "Shooter" Schaber took his last call.
Damn near everyone involved with the benefit for Hollis is now in mourning.
Hollis' bills aren't going anywhere.
We will announce the rescheduled date as soon as we have it.
Thanks for being understanding, gang.
AND DON'T FORGET....
The DIVE BAR is having a benefit tonight as well!
$15 gets you an open bar!
(dear lord)
Head to the Moose lodge tonight and drink till you puke.

ATTENTION AUSTIN CREW!!!!

this is a benefit party for a dear friend of mine, DPW and of the greater BM community, Hollis (who some of you know), has been involved in a horrible motorcycle accident and now needs the support of the community more then ever. so STEP UP!

you can read her story here:
http://www.friendsofhollis.blogspot.com/

SATURDAY APRIL 18TH
FLIPSIDE WHERE?HOUSE?
featuring
THAT Damned Band
Esmerelda Strange
GutBunny Revival
Special Surprise Guest DJ
Raffle for fabulous prizes
Games include:

EVERYTHING will be on donation only, SO BRING YOUR FRIENDS! lets make this into a HUGE party... it could be fun

i still need some supplies, volunteers, and PERFORMERS.
if there is anyone who wants to come play some music, put on some kind of act, or bring a game, email me and ill get you set up.
a PROJECTOR, if anyone has one that they can lend for the event it will make it WAY easier to actually show the movie
volunteers:
set-up
clean-up
anyone involved in film (as a hobby or otherwhise)
-hollis' doctors said that it is important for her brain to be stimulated for it to heal quicker, so i was thinking it would be a good idea to have someone make a bright loud colorful documentary of the event to send to her.
some information boards need to be made up so that people know what our cause is, i have pictures and info if there is someone who wants to put that together.

we currently need donations for raffle prizes, so go through your stuff and see if you got some neat, goofy, artistic, or useful stuff.

Burner owned RV park in Northern California needs campground host

We need a campground host. Single person, or couple would be good. If you don't know about US, Eagle's Nest RV Park, we are located on the road from the Pacific Northwest to Black Rock City. Lots of Burners stop here and we offer free showers, water and camping for them. Approx 200 people came through here last year we estimate.

What we are looking for is someone, or a couple to live here in a trailer or motorhome and help take care of the place. Register guests, water and mow the grass, take care of the hot tub, keep the clubhouse, laundry room and bathrooms clean, keep the trash picked up..etc.. would be the normal stuff.

The park is over 40 acres and we are developing some of it for tent and group camping with firepits.

So in reviewing the year in the desert I remember one thing. I WENT CRAZY!!!

Wowsers did I ever go crazy. My one question to all of you is how many of you have had a dose
of insanity from living out in the desert?
Im not talking about drug induced crazy.
Just good ole fashioned hearing voices and seeing shit unprovoked by substances?
And if that was a drug induced crazy then I will
find the fucker who dosed me...oh I will find you!

Well if no one chimes up I will finally know that you are all in on it and where to point the missile when I push the button!

CRAZY -- you haven't even seen crazy yet~!!!!

I have an acquaintance who has a great shop with all kinds of hand blacksmithing tools.

Jim holds a very casual class every Wednesday evening. Maybe, if there's more interest, he'll do more evenings.

Great for people who are interested but maybe not sure they want to commit to a clas at the Crucible (I love them too!). It's like $20 and six pack.

I'm just putting the feelers out there. If you're interested, contact me here and I'll hook you up with him.

Well, the BM Tribe has gone to shit and they are setting up a three person team for moderation. Chicken John and I are both in the running and both veteran DPW and you can vote for BOTH of us. So, VOTE FOR DPW!

Everything in moderation, right? I am pulling a solid 4th place. I need 15 more votes to make the team.

Please vote for me

http://bm.tribe.net/thread/350ba246-a7b2-4b22-8c9b-f60dd15acef3

Here is my platform:

The Burning Man Tribe (http://bm.tribe.net) is the largest tribe on tribe.net. For years, many in the community have asked for more moderation, but we only had one moderator. It will take at least three people to monitor the content.

However, I am not sure why we really need to have strict moderation. A major pleasure of the Burning Man event, past and present, is the ability to really push things into a different place. I think I am the best choice to be selected as one of the three moderators because I will do my best to keep it true to the spirit of the event, rather than some moderated bulletin board you might have on a college campus or corporation. I don't have much of a reputation as someone easy to work with. I worked hard to get that. And I think that is an asset, if we are going to have three people moderating. You are going to need at least one wild card in that bunch.

Working together with other moderators could be done in shifts, certain days. It could also be in tandem. Basically, when anyone in the community has an issue with the content, there will always be a moderator to respond within 12 hours. If there is a major issue, the three of us can work together either as a consensus or majority to solve any heated problems to ensure fairness to the community. I could take a few shifts a week to monitor content and deal with minor issues. I think any major issues must be decided by the three of us.

Just as the event has to follow federal, state and county laws, but is able to bend some of the rules to create the city that the BM Tribe was created to talk about, I realize that the internet has certain issues that need to be followed, the majority of which I believe are covered in the Terms of Use. I prefer a more hands off approach to moderation, but I think we do need to have some type of moderator group to address any TOU complaints, cybercrimes and anything like spam and overt advertising, mis-posts and abuse of sock puppets.

I think to delete a thread, all three must be in consensus (unanimous) as well as kicking someone out of the tribe. Everything else could go majority, two to one votes.

I imagine the three of us are going to have to set up a tribe to keep tabs on what we are up to, and we could make that tribe open to the public, or private.

I don't think we need to be proactive and make this tribe some kind of Nanny Cyber-State, but rather be available to address things in a manner that is complaint driven, meaning unless we spot something really fucked, we don't need to hold every one's hand and start some massive censorship of everything . . .

I've been one of the people that have pushed the limits in this tribe, but I have also learned from that and I would like to give back to the community. Yeah, that's the ticket. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

PURPLE PEOPLE PARTY!!!

WE have another art show coming up!

Its been quite sometime since our last shin dig.
I must say that it does not feel like we have had a break
from it all but alas its time to get back up on that ole
rusty art horse and put together a show again.

Title- PURPLE PEOPLE PARTY
Date- Nov. 20,21,22 - revolution anniversary
Location- New Albanian Brewing Company.

Reasoning- Today's politics are very similar to that of the politics of the WWF. So with that said we have decided to erase the party lines that have been drawn in the sand and declare the two party system as one party...

Red(democrats) + Blue(republicans)= PURPLE!!!

This theme does not mean the art should be political in nature... if anything it should be what ever the hell you want it to be. Why because we are supposed to live in a free world if I remember correctly. Well anyways we really hope you can bring some new art.

here is a revolution connection to help inspire you-

I dream about Burning Man and mooping the desert... How can I use this experience? Well, who cares? I love walking through the desert barefoot, mooping and practicing tai chi, then drinking late at the Black Rock Saloon. This is the closest thing to a job I've had in years, and it's awesome. What's next? I'm going from here right to Coalessence Fest to help out and practice improv shamanism!

I'm headed in that direction for Halloween weekend, along with possibly one gal from Man Krew, and some other SF peeps.

Anybody gonna be around New Orleans for Halloween or Dia de los Muertos? Or, heck, the day after? Let's go get something to drink.

And does anybody have a bit of space in the corner somewhere that I could curl up and sleep for a night or two? It'd just be me; the others have their own arrangements.

So in pondering our many talents there are few that have been overlooked.
Art for instance. No not the guy your talents dumbass!

anyways--- So many of us in the DPW have artistic skills but there is a need for a show!

We know you can build shit. But can you paint a picture?
Or draw a figure? well lets see who's got what it takes........
Perhaps an open invite to all Gerlach resident artists would be fun as well.
The desert is a great stage for art but perhaps to big for some! Especially for the fine arts. The art that is
more easily destroyed.

Anybody interested?

What--DPW ART SHOW!!!
Where-- to be determined
When-- sometime between working hard and getting drunk

This idea is just beginning but suggestions or criticism greatly appreciated

oh and fuck you

i've been back for a week and i'm still having trouble adjusting.

there's no dust in my bed.

i can breathe though my nose first thing in the morning cause there's no playa boogers.

my hair isn't knotted, and my brown skin is paling.

no one is playing metal loudly at 7 AM.

i can't walk 50 feet and find a bar with free booze.

there's no pbr in my fridge (though i could fix that).

there isn't anyone screaming "SHUT UP!" or offering me drugs at 4 AM.

and it's fucking 61 degrees and i'm freezing my tuchas off!

i came back to 85 degrees, with people complaining it was too hot. i laughed.

miss you fuckers.

xoxo,

...and missing out on working 2008.

To make a long story short, I was bored with my job last year, and thought it better to take time off and give the post to someone who would find something refreshing and new in the whole affair. I didn't want my really cool job to go to waste on my dumb, jaded ass, and decided that I'd rather hand it off so someone else would, in turn, gain a ton of cool new stories much like the ones I've been collecting about the DPW since 2000, the first year I went to work out there. Why be a total pig when I can just as easily seek out something fresh and new, and let someone else take on my old position?

Also, my film/screenwriting career is finally taking off in earnest, and I figured that if I actually wanted to get somewhere in the movies that I need to get on with it already and start making some, plus pay off all of my old student loans -- no small feat -- and maybe get my (however beloved) family of Squidbillies off my back.

With that in mind, I will be coming out for a few days w/ Snatch just before the event starts. Tell us ahead of time if you need more socks. You can never have enough, even when it seems like you do.

I was going to get married in October, but dag-nabbit, neither Whatley or I had time to plan a wedding, we are that busy right now.

Cheers, and enjoy your work, no matter how ridiculous it gets. If you're bored, can't stand your job or are otherwise acting like a whiney 'tard, it's probably time to do something else.

So, it's been clear for awhile that there's something of a generation gap in the DPW, evinced here on tribe. Lots of new folks who don't recognize some serious old school titans (I couldn't believe there were people who didn't know who Phat Mandee was), and us oldsters who don't have any idea who some of the next generation of fuckos are.

So, how about taking this opportunity before we hit the playa to introduce ourselves, without any "I've got more cred than you" posturing. If you're DPW, you totally rock, Q.E.D. I'll get the ball rolling, m'kay?

Kelly, aka Apollo. My first year at the event was 1999, coming with a group called Antenna Theater. We had a pretty massive art installation, a timeline of the universe that was about a mile long up the Promenade, and I met a lot of DPW folks who helped us out, most notably the now-outcast Circusboy/El Mano. I started volunteering for the event in 2000, offcially the Lighting Desinger for the Center Camp Cafe but I came up early enough to work with DPW long before the Cafe was even built. I've operated heavy machinery for the Man Base crew, pounded fence stakes, built bike racks, benches, and other weird shit, put up and taken down shade, worked on the Man, dug power trenches, put up street signs, helped Carlcarlcarl put up the Commisary Tent the first year the llc had it, cut out burn barrels, and probably other shit I've forgotten by now.

Since 2005, my full-tme job has made it so I can't get to the playa more than 2 1/2 weeks or so, which is a serious bummer. I still do lighting for the cafe and worked on Man 2.0 last year. One day I'll either have amuch better job situation so I can spend more time working for DPW again, or a much worse one so I'll have nothing to do but DPW for months at a time.

So who the fuck are you?

Hey guys, after a month of flip flopping I have finally decided:
I am officially not going out to the desert this year. It was a stressful decision to make, but i think i'm doing what's best. I have a pretty great thing going on here in Portland and Burning Man isn't offering enough to pull me away right now. I already know i'll be missing out on a lot of fun, but i'm going to have full health bennies at my job soon and if you know me then you know i need them.
So when you're out in the dust, working for the Man, creating that city out of nothing and you feel that tiny hole in your heart and you realize something is missing, raise your PBRs high and think fondly of me. Then get back to work, Hippie's.

Panties clear.

I'll be there for the burn and Playa Restoration.
I bought a one way ticket to Reno
and in spite of the loss I feel I'm making Nevada my home.
Whoa! Does this mean that I'm a Burner now???

DPW - Minus one this year

Kills me to say it, but it looks like I'm not going to make it to the desert this year. The original plan had me leaving tomorrow morning, but that was before I'd been ripped off in June and then sidelined by clients in July. Now my truck is falling apart and each day I feel Gerlach and the Playa slipping further and further away.

It's killing me because I've been planning and thinking all year long about ways to make the DPW Ghetto a better place for everyone who comes out to make the city each year. Y'all are blessed that you have the amazing talents and skills of Face, Guage and Artshark making things awesome this year, but for me it sucks I can't be a part of it. As fence draws nearer I die a little more inside.

If miracles arise and I find myself in some unsuspected windfall I'll be in Nevada before the Big Party begins, but Nevada is looking further and further away as each day passes. My heart and love goes out to you all - be safe and be smart, and have a PBR on me you fuckers.

The Manbryo

Hey Fucktards:
those of you on the DPW List have already seen this. But those of you who are not, here ya go.......

While turnin wrenches in Auto Shop back in June, I happened to be there when a nice, clean, dual-axle, flatbed straight-truck arrived with some wood. Just before, and soon after, many hands arrived to assemble a thing, seemingly, whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Its the central figure of our theme camp. Its why tens of thousands of people traverse the country and the planet the last week of August.

I've had the chance to inter-act with peeps on The Man Krew on playa. But, not much, and not in any other setting. I gotta tell ya, this is a great bunch. Close knit, hard workin, and hard playin. We shared some good laughs, although, mostly I can't remember what we were laughing about. My hat is off to every one of them, individually and as a group.

I took over a couple hundred pics of the process. When the flatbed first arrived, I knew what it was...a Manbryo. They turned him into a fetus and now he is incubating in a semi-trailer womb. Soon, I will taxi him to his city on playa, and he will be dressed and lifted to his perch.
Take a look at the pics, and, hopefully, it will stir some excitement in you. And in turn, this excitement will carry you thru set-up, and then until we burn the full grown effigy of our lives, and our efforts. And it will be the best burn ever.

The slightly abridged version is here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/visvadas/sets/72157606351171100/
Click on <detail> or <slideshow>

Feel free to add comments, anecdotes, and names. These are not the types to blow their own horn.

Enjoy,
iNsaNe

Who: Fire Blooms! www.fireblooms.com

The Fire Blooms, initiated by Rebecca Anders and Yasmin Mawaz-Khan, and the Sea Stars, led by Charles Gadeken, have used grant and private funding to produce large sculptural fire rings for public use, with great success. These works have a significant positive impact on Ocean Beach in San Francisco, allowing the long-standing tradition of beach bonfires to continue in a safer, cleaner, legal way. This project is for and about our community, and our people's support is vital to its completion!

Thanks, Robin Hood

I was thinking after restoration last year and watching dune and star wars for the 100th time in a month that it would be hilarious to re edit scenes from star wars to be more playa related example;
opening scene star wars the star destroyer is fiiring on a smaller vessel
cudlles is on the PA for gate ytrying to stop the gate crashers

darth vader is interogating the crew
where are the hams
this is a catering ship on a contract with brc

if this is a catering ship where is the chef? (man dies with a broken neck) tear this ship apart till you find those hams.!!!!

or the pods launch into the desert and the storm troopers are scouring it re shoot the scene so it's playa restoration in the middle of a dust storm and one of them has picked up a glow stick " look sir ravers!"

or even from beyond thunderdome
who run barter town
hazmat
say louder !!!
hazmat run barter town

see also shep as the bartender in mos eisely
hey we don't serve their kind here
your hippies they have to stay outside
hail satan!

scene from empire strikes back
over the intercom
the first theme camp is away
playa restoration cheers
the first theme camp is away

I really want some other ideas for scenes to scoot together and over dub with new audio maybe record a bunch of this on or off the playa
for future use

Ride to Gerlach from NM and path thereof

. So, I am heading to the Playa from Albuquerque and going northwest first, towards Moab, then I am taking either 50 or 80. I need to be on the Playa by the 11th, so I will be leaving on the 8th the latest. If you live somewhere in that path, I have lots of room in the back of my truck and room for one person comfortably, and possibly two people if the second is of small stature ( I only have the extended cab, not the crew cab so the back seat is a little tight ) Just thought I would throw this up there for any of you volunteers that may be needing a ride. Help with gas would be sweet, but I am going in that direction regardless, so if you are not able to that is ok. I am planning on stopping at really nice places to camp for the night, Moab canyon being the first stop, then after that....well, who knows. With extra drivers we may even be able to make the trip in one shot. I am willing to detour a little to pick you up, though in that case I would require a donation towards the extra gas that would be required. Lets get this fucking party started!!

SOS!! BRC DPW Evelina needs your help!

Dear DPW freaks, friends and family,

One of yer own, Evelina (aka Flask Ninja, aka EVILina, aka Meat Wife… yes, we do like our nicknames in this community), a member of Black Rock City’s DPW’007, was involved in a hit and run accident while riding her bike on June 5th in Chicago. She was admitted into intensive care with severe injuries to her face, throat, arms and ribs. She is now out of the hospital and recuperating at home.

Like so many of us in our country’s current sociopolitical climate, Evi is without health insurance and will be out of work while she is healing. This accident, aside from leaving her with broken bones and deep wounds that need time to mend, has sent her into a state of financial peril.

Those of us – and there are many - who ride our bikes as a main mode of transportation could fall victim to an accident like this at any point. How many times have you thought to yourself “Whew! That was close!” as a car narrowly missed hitting you while you’re riding?

I am asking those of us in the community who can afford to help Evi out financially, that you please make a donation through PayPal – no matter how small, any and all donations will help! You can donate any amount via her paypal email addy: clashout84@yahoo.com. You could also send her some love via email at the same address.

Thanks for your time and consideration, and for any help you can give to Evelina in this moment of need. Radical self-reliance aside, this is part of what our community is all about - rising up together to help one of our own during a time of dire straits.

Ride Safely!

With big love,
Linda Loca,
Burning Man-Chicago

So this is looking funner and funner....
The DPW's "Educate a Newbie" has had an overwhelming response.
We've got BRC native Tyler Hayes bringing 4 years PlayaQ grill experience to the temporary "Ghetto" tomorrow.
Olivia!'s gonna be throwing down on the grill as well.
Erin13 will unveil the 2008' MOOPcedez Benz and will lend her guidance as you learn how to "PIMP YOUR MOOP BUCKET"!
Otto Von Danger's in the game, along with the beautiful Jalapena (veteran Line Boss extraordinaire ).
I've got the 2007 MOOP map, and 7 MOOP sticks (thank you Mr. Raspa) to add to the fun.
So bring yourself, and your noobie.
Bring some meat for the grill, extra garbage bags, and enough PBR for you, and 20 friends.
Got shade?
We could probably use some more, so email me please.
This is a great way for those of us not able to travel out to Gerlach for the work weekend to still contribute to our beloved community.
Also, for those that haven't seen, I've done a little "cut/paste" action under this with the BBQ a noobie picnic info previously released.
I'll see you tomorrow.

Tyler Monteleoni 1984-2008

Tyler Monteleoni (also know to some as Ranger Rommel) was killed in a roll-over accident on Jungo Road.

When I came back from the war in 2006, I met Tyler. We both drove Samurai and had been to many of the same places in the war.

He is dead now at 24. It always pisses me off when people make it home from the war and die having fun.

Please be careful. Even Curmudgeons like me might care about you.

Fstick wrote a good obituary for him on the Internal DPW list, but I do not have permission to post it. Perhaps someone can post it.

Emrg-N-See 2008 Volunteer Call-Out

Got one more event for you folks that I need some hands for:

--------------------------------------------
Emrg+N+See Call for Volunteers
July18-21, 2008

It’s almost that time of year again for the explosion of music, art, dance and love out in the beautiful Oregon countryside known as Emrg+N+See! Come be a part of the magic and fun. Volunteer!

SHIFTS
We are currently filling slots for the Parking Lot, Security, Gate, Box Office, Trash Crew, Kitchen and Clean-up. Sign up by contacting Mischief, AKA Tiffany Stoneman, your volunteer coordinator at Call For Volunteers
http://2008.emrgnsee.com/volunteer/

HOW IT WORKS
You give us a total of 10 hours, 2 of which will be done on clean-up crew on the Monday after the festival. And of course, all of these 10 hours will be completed in your sunniest festival-happy welcoming manner. We are the “first impression” of Emrg+N+See….lets make it a spectacular one.

TICKETS AND REIMBURSEMENT
Once you sign up, we will send you the link to buy your volunteer ticket for $85.00. Complete all of your shifts and we will reimburse you $75.00. The extra $10.00 covers the camp fee for the use of the farm. If you need to cancel, you will need to get a refund through Brown Paper Tickets by July 11th.

ARRIVAL
Try to reach the festival site between 12pm-8pm on Thursday, July 17th. If that is impossible – you MUST arrive between 10am-12pm on Friday, July 18th

*Please note that volunteers are placed on a first come, first serve basis. We may not be able to accommodate requests to work certain duties and/or times. Signing up means you can handle a festival schedule (shifts run 24 hours a day), and will show up sober.

I just want to thank all the kick ass dpw who made it out to flipside this year to play.
Also DA for busting ass on the clean up and any other DPW who did any work(not expected at all, this should be y'all's pre playa R and R.)

Anne Boney don't ye be thinking of jacking me ship again or i gon keel haul ya.

I also want to apoligize seriously to the DPW valkeyre who hopped on back of the cart and fell off due to my idiosycratic driving style during the monday morning mayhem . I swear i didn't know you there till you fell off(which was prolly my own fault) I totaly deserved the round house you gave me, thanks for not punching and I'm glad you are allright(as you said you were cuz that was the only thing i was thinking soon as it happened).
Nothing like last night of the event hijinx eh?
I forgive the crew who jacked my cart one morning, My bad for not disabling six ways to sunday (which you should all know how to do if you wind up driving a cart at BM) thanks for running into the bush and passing out safely instead of doing the thelma and louis over the cliff about 40 yards further through a camp with sleeping babies. Y'all were pretty good about that. I blamed it all on Sloan if anyone asked.(he's kinda our sin eater).
Small things aside y'all were a nice reminder of my old tribe and its spirit.
Y'all be a little safer out there ok? Hi to all the others too.
I gotta go set up a circus now(Circus Flora go ahead and google it).

Flipside DPW Invasion Thanks

Hey folkses who came on down for our little sweaty shindig, (think the last count was 32 or 33 DPW)

Thanks for coming! It was /awesome/ to see y'all again, and not in a must-work-and-dusty scenario (except for the Tower folks that first day). I'm proud to know that Flipside's known unofficially as an event where the hardcore desert workers come to kick back, relax, and enjoy not having to bust ass because hell, y'all deserve it. On behalf of the Austin Flipside community, thanks for coming down, enduring the heat, and making the event /that/ much more enjoyable. I'm looking forward to seeing more of ya down here next year.

It's an honor to work and play beside you all. Take care, have fun, and travel safely. See you in the desert. And in case anyone was curious or I forgot to tell you, my personal plan is to be out the week before the event and through cleanup like last year. (Which means celebrating another birthday in Gerlach)

Bacon that Whiskey, over,
